A brief overview of some of the major specialised products we import into Southern Africa
MULTI-LAYER HIGH BARRIER FILMS
The majority of today’s packaging Films are multilayer structures ranging from anything from 3 to 12 layers. Multilayer Films are mostly used in high-volume packaging, including food and medical applications. The combination of several layers significantly increases shelf life by controlling the transmission rate of oxygen, carbon dioxide and moisture as well as the concentration of oxygen inside the package which is key in preserving the freshness of fresh produce for a longer period of time. Laminations can including aluminium, paper and various co-extruded polymers; combined for optimum packaging barriers.
Ask us about our barrier product range including R.E.M’s patented Hydroxylam® and Laminox® materials which are food safe, waterproof and maintain a longer shelf life.
MGBK & CLAY COATED PAPERS
Specialised grades of clay coated papers (CBK) and machine glazed papers, can be supplied with or without PE extrusion coatings. These range from 18gm to well over 100gsm, and used in various printing applications, or laminations for other packaging applications, including sugar sticks, soup pouches, and various lidding applications.
CPP Films are transparent cast polypropylene films designed to offer high performance, great appearance and easy converting for flexible packaging and other applications. Various constructions of CPP are available (multilayer options) which are used to cater to several applications in general packaging, as a sealant layer in conjunction with other plastic substrates for packaging of food products, twist wrap usage in candies, etc.
Aluminium Foil is prepared in thin metal leaves with common thicknesses of 6,3um-to over 100um. Its often used in lamination to other substrates such as paper and PE, and converted for packaging or industrial applications such as roofing insulation.
Aluminium foil acts as a total barrier to light and oxygen (which cause fats to oxidise or become rancid). Aluminium protects against odours and flavours, moistness, and germs, and so it is used broadly in food and pharmaceutical packaging, including long-life packs (aseptic packaging) for drinks and dairy goods, which allows storing without refrigeration.
PET Film is a high-performance, crystal clear thermoplastic made from ethylene glycol and dimethyl terephthalate (DMT). In comparison with other common plastic Films, PET Film has higher tensile strength, excellent dimensional stability, low moisture absorption, and good retention of physical properties over a fairly wide temperature range. It also has superior UV resistance, excellent electrical properties, good optical clarity, high gloss, and good gas barriers, but only moderate moisture barrier properties.
PE COATED PAPERS
PE extrusion coated papers, come in a range of weights, commonly 30gm up to 300gm boards. The thickness of PE coating typically ranges from 9um to 30, depending on the application or barrier required. Co-extruded polymers can also be used, such as PP or Surlyn layers, and even compostable grades of PE, for environmentally sensitives packaging.
Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene Film with a heat sealable olefin copolymer on both surfaces. Designed to offer a wide range of applications in the printing, lamination and automatic packaging machines (HFF & VFFS)
• Wide heat seal range
• Good slip and anti static property
• Good optical properties
• Excellent machinability
• Good dimension stability
• Good barriers to moisture, odor and gases
• Conforms to FDA guidelines
We offer a range of siliconised paper for baking trays in single or multi-use applications, in a range of thicknesses.
Cellophane is made from regenerated cellulose, usually transparent, and used primarily as a packaging material. Its low permeability to air, oils, greases, bacteria, and water makes it useful for food packaging. Cellophane is commonly used to package confectionary, cigar’s, firelighter blitz, & feminine products.
We offer tea bag filter paper, greaseproof paper (with a range of kit values), coloured papers, and some specialised security papers.
